Just So Festival awarded silver on AiE charter

We are delighted that Attitude is Everything has announced that we have been awarded the Silver Level on the Charter of Best Practice for its commitment to improving access for Deaf and disabled music fans.  We’re actively working towards the ultimate Gold Award.

To qualify for Charter status, live music venues and festivals must demonstrate exemplary access provision and an on-going commitment to improving accessibility – working with Attitude is Everything to go beyond the legal obligations set out in the Equality Act, to implement best practice, and to provide a fair and equal service to their Deaf and disabled customers.

Just So Festival joined the Charter of Best Practice at Bronze Level in 2014 and in November became the first festival to sign up to Attitude is Everything and the Association of Independent Festival’s joint campaign Access Starts Online.

Just So has been specifically recognised by Attitude is Everything for:

  • Comprehensive access information, including innovative programming guidelines so families can decide which performances best meet their needs and wishes.
  • An accessible campsite with a dedicated team to answer queries and enquiries.
  • Engagement and partnership work  with local access organisations such as Space Cheshire, who provide a safe and friendly chillout spaces for children who require it.

Just So’s fantastic Access Officer Callum Hogg recently wrote for the Guardian Professionals Network on the value of connecting online with Deaf and disabled audiences.

Commenting on the award, Suzanne Bull MBE, CEO of Attitude is Everything, said:

Ever since they began working with us in 2013, Just So Festival have demonstrated a commitment to making their festival as accessible as possible for all families who want to attend.  Their detailed advance information and use of safe spaces make the festival a particularly comfortable and enjoyable environment for everyone and we are delighted to award them silver today.

Rowan Hoban, one of the Just So Directors, recently spoke about the festival’s association with Attitude is Everything:

Just So Festival is thrilled to partner with Attitude is Everything. We have received large amounts of positive feedback and take-up since ensuring our accessibility provision was pushed even more to the fore in 2015. Our mantra for our festival programming of a world-class outdoor arts offer for families is “if we don’t give you goosebumps we are not doing it right” and that truly must include everyone.
