2013 sees the first delegate programme to be held at Just So Festival, the outdoor weekend family arts festival for families held in Cheshire.

Wild Rumpus would like to invite those with an interest in programming and producing outdoor and whole family arts events to join us for an inspiring weekend of creative adventures and discussions around the benefits of whole family arts outdoors.

The programme runs from Saturday 17^th August at 10am to Sunday 18^th August at 6pm. As well as opportunities to explore the hundreds of programming elements at the festival, further details of which can be found here www.justsofestival.org.uk/whats-on  there will also be discussions around outdoor arts, whole family participation and immersive arts experiences

Including:

-       Intro to the festival from the Festival Directors & Pif Paf Theatre

-       Clay:  a sensory discussion with The Flying Potter

-       The power of Outdoor Stories with Ian Douglas

The delegate programme costs £50 which includes

•  Entrance to the festival (you can arrive anytime from 2pm on Friday 16^th August
• Camping pitch (provide own camp equipment) if you would rather arrange to stay locally off site our partner hotel is the Best Western Manor House at Alsager, 3 miles from site, rooms can be booked from £65+
• Refreshments throughout Saturday & Sunday (meals not included)
• Access to all workshops and performances
• Access to the delegate tent, a space to relax, reflect on events, discuss events with colleagues and meet performers and artists.

We are delighted to be welcoming Amy Hudson as Art Director for Just So Festival 2013. Amy will be co-ordinating the visual design of the site and its installation. We have small teams of students and graduates working on different areas of the site, and Amy will be weaving her own magic, combining all the elements alongside her own work and making the 2013 festival into the wonderful creative playground that we love so. Amy has worked incredibly hard and brought lashings of imagination to the festival as a volunteer for the past three years, so we’re over the moon that she is moving into this rather special role in 2013.

“I’m a soon to be graduated Production Designer and Scenic Art specialist from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

I have had a lifelong love with the arts and a 3 year obsession with the Just So Festival!

I am focusing my 3rd year on the world of opera as a means to express myself as a designer and painter and to explore it’s future potential. I am very excited that this will culminate in a performance of Jonathan Dove’s ‘Flight’ in Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre June 2013 where I will design both set & costume.

I like paint. alot.

I am excited to take on this new role and to have the opportunity to work with a group of highly creative and inspiring individuals.”

We are running a competition for the perfect film documenting the marvellous wonderland that is the Just So Festival 2013. The Just So Festival is a boutique, weekend-long festival of creativity aimed at children, young people and their families. The 2013 festival will take place 16/17/18 August 2013 at Rode Hall Parkland in Cheshire.

The festival provides a magical experience where art, music and literature are embedded and entwined in a beautiful and wonderous landscape. We provide a broad range of musical, theatrical and visual performances, workshops and installations within a safe, natural and magical setting. Every clearing and glade holds a new way to unleash creativity. Families discover and delight in the spectacular within the woodland environment during this spectacular weekend event.

We are looking for a 5 minute  film telling the story of the 2013 festival, which will be used as a public document of the event, on our website and social media sites, as a wonderful memory of 2013 and a marketing tool for 2014.

Stage 1

We will shortlist five filmmakers to come to the festival.

Stage 2

The five shortlisted filmmakers will have full access to the site and performers through set up and the festival itself (Tuesday 13^th August – Monday 19^th August 2013). We will provide camping space alongside our performers and volunteers, and will provide crew catering (two hot meals per day) throughout.

We will ask you to produce your final, edited video and submit it to us by Monday 2^nd September. Music should be chosen from bands who have performed at the festival (we will arrange relevant permissions).

The winning film will be promoted heavily through our website and social media, with full credit to the filmmaker. The filmmaker will also win a cash prize of £250.

Terms and conditions

ENTRANTS

Entrants agree that this competition is only open to currently enrolled students at a UK based education provider that has been registered with the appropriate authority.  Any Entrant that does not fit these criteria will be automatically disqualified. All Entrants understand that the Competitions will be administered under the laws of England and Wales.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Entries will be judged by Wild Rumpus CIC employees. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

OWNERSHIP RIGHTS IN SUBMISSIONS

Entrant must have all ownership rights in and to his/her submission(s). By submitting an entry, Entrant represents and warrants that the design contained therein is his/her original  work and that no other person or entity has any ownership interest in the design or is entitled to any payment for the use of the design. Entrant’s entry must not have been submitted in any other competition or previously published.

Wild Rumpus CIC reserves the right to void and/or disqualify any submission, if found in Wild Rumpus CIC’s sole discretion to be plagiarized, copied, or fraudulent; to infringe upon existing rights of others; or to be incomplete, damaged, obscene, vulgar, offensive or otherwise unsuitable.

Wild Rumpus CIC assumes that all entries are original and are the works and property of the Entrant, with all rights granted there-in.

Wild Rumpus CIC assumes that all images provided with entries are free of any third-party rights. Wild Rumpus CIC is not liable for violations of any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, claims of copyright, trademark, patent infringement, defamation, trade secrets, or trade dress on the part of the Entrant.

Conditions of ticket sales and entry to the Just So Festival gives permission for our audience, performers, vendors and volunteers to be captured on film for promotional purposes.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS IN ENTRIES

By submitting an entry, each Entrant agrees that Wild Rumpus CIC shall own the entry (including all intellectual property related to or embodied in such design) and that the Entrant has relinquished all intellectual property in the entry to Wild Rumpus CIC.

Wild Rumpus CIC reserves all rights related to the entries, including the rights to edit, publish, use, adapt, exploit, modify, copy, disseminate, post, or dispose of the entries, online, in print, film, television, or in any other media for advertising and promotional or other purposes, or license others to do so, without compensation or notification to the respective Entrants of any kind, except as prohibited by law

RIGHT TO USE NAME, LIKENESS, ETC.

By submitting an entry, Entrant grants to Wild Rumpus CIC, the right, except where prohibited by law, to use his/her name, and written or oral statements, for advertising and promotional purposes in promoting or publicising Wild Rumpus CIC without compensation, unless required by law.

We’re over the moon to announce that Barnardo’s, the leading UK children’s charity, are on board as our charity partner for 2013. They will be getting into the festival spirit and providing volunteer stewards as well as getting creative in the Barnardos tent.

Festival Director Sarah Bird said “We are delighted that Barnardo’s will be joining us and hope we can help raise heaps of money for them as well as awareness of the huge variety of work that Barnardo’s do, they are such a creative and wonderful organisation we know they’re going to bring lots of energy and enthusiasm to the festival”

As well as providing volunteer stewards, Barnardo’s will be fundraising at the festival and will also host a Barnardo’s tent where festival goers can enjoy stories and crafts and take part in a Big Toddle (a short sponsored walk for under 5’s) as well as learning more about the work that the charity undertakes.

Barnardo’s  Community Fundraising Volunteer Manager Samantha Howarth said of the partnership “We are very proud and excited to be chosen by Just So Festival as their charity partner.  The festival is a wonderful event for children and their families to enjoy themselves and get creative…. so we are looking forward to helping with the event!  We will have our mascot Todd for everyone to meet and he will also be supporting children who are taking part in the Big Toddle, a short sponsored walk too!”.

Brrr. This is a stunning ice maze created at the Ice on Whyte festival in Alberta, Canada. You’d need your woolies, we reckon.

Our tip top traditional hedge maze is this twisty one at Glendurgan Garden in Cornwall.

The best of the stone mazes – this one at Lithica, in a former quarry in Menorca is pretty hard to beat. If you squint a little bit you can almost see the Minotaur around the next corner.

You know how much we love pretty much anything made from books, so this maze of books, aMAZEme on the Southbank was right up our street. In our hearts, we think that you might struggle to get lost in this one, but this one x10? That would really be something.

We’ve got some new friends in the ever so marvellous Peppersmith. We’ve got a major crush on them. They make mints, but not just mints. They’re blooming lovely, and blooming good for you too. They love a moustache, which makes us love them all the more, and they’ll be supporting our 2013 moustache competition. But more of that later.

Peppersmith don’t use any of that sugary malarkey, but some super clever ingredient that’s good for your teeth. I can already sense a new twist in the great Rowan-Sarah debate on whether it’s OK for the small ones to do a bit less brushing of the teeth during festival weekend.

To celebrate and welcome Peppersmith into the Just So fold, we’re running a competition to win a whole load of marvellous mints. They make something that is normally not that good for you into something that really is, so we’re asking…

Halloween, tick. Bonfire Night, tick. What’s next then? Oh yes, Christmas! As I’m already wondering when it’s acceptable to have the first mince pie of the season, we thought we’d do a ticket offer.
